Letter for
AREDS participants in reply to vitamin E study
A recent meta-analysis of 19 studies reports that daily doses of
vitamin E above 400IU are associated with an increased risk of death.
However, the authors of the Age-Related Eye Disease Study
(AREDS) say this new analysis doesn’t apply to patients
at risk for advanced AMD. They are advising patients taking 400IU
of vitamin E as part of the AREDS formulation to continue.
