Jamine L. Shechter, MD, FACS
Jamine L. Shechter, MD, FACS joined the practice in
1992. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from Haverford
College. She received her medical degree from the University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She completed her ophthalmology
residency training at the Scheie Eye Institute of the University
of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Dr. Shechter is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and is a Fellow
of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College
of Surgeons. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology
and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. She
is on the staff at Phoenixville Hospital and Pottstown Memorial
Medical Center. She served as Chief of Ophthalmology at Phoenixville
Hospital from 2000 to 2010 and is associated with Scheie Eye Institute
In 2010 Dr. Shechter was named one of the Top Doctors on the Main
Line by Main Line Today Magazine.
Dr. Shechter specializes in eye surgery. She also treats all medical
eye diseases and performs comprehensive eye exams for children and
adults. Her surgical expertise includes small incision phacoemulsification
cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation, and laser procedures.
Dr. Shechter has performed nearly 5000 cataract surgeries. She specializes
in complex cataract surgery.
Dr. Shechter performs many different eye operations,
usually on an outpatient basis at the brand new Physicians Care
Surgical Hospital and at Phoenixville Hospital's Surgery Center
at Limerick. They both provide state-of-the-art technology for cataract
and laser surgery. Dr. Shechter is one of the founding partners
of Physicians Care Surgical Hospital. The most common operations
are small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery with intraocular
lens implantation, laser surgery, correction of eyelid deformities,
and removal of growths on or around the eye.
Dr. Shechter always performs the initial postoperative
care on her surgical patients. In addition, she works with optometrists
in the community to ensure continuity of care for the patient after

centers for laser vision correction to reduce or eliminate dependence
on glasses or contact lenses. Patients can have their pre and post
operative care in our office.
Dr. Shechter is married to Dr. Daniel Sterman, who in 2015 was
named Professor of Medicine and Surgery and Director of the Division
of Pulmonology, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at NYU Langone
Medical Center. They have a son, Andrew and twins Grant and Caroline.
An avid sports fan, in 2010 she was named to the inaugural Season
Ticket Holder Fan Advisory Board of the Philadelphia Eagles. She
served on the Board until 2014.
