Contact Lens Fees
Routine eye examinations and refractions do not cover the procedures
as outlined above that are necessary to evaluate patients wearing
contact lenses. This includes patients of most managed care plans
(Keystone, Davis, Aetna, Blue Shield Vision, etc.) . A fee for the
contact lens exam/evaluation will be charged whether or not a new
contact lens wearer is successfully able to be fitted and whether
or not an existing contact lens wearer has a change made in their
contact lens prescription. This fee will also be charged even if
there is insurance coverage for the contact lenses, as that insurance
covers only the actual contact lenses and not the doctor’s
services.
The contact lens exam fee covers all return followup visits for
a ninety (90) day period. As many visits as are needed in three
months, just one simple fee!
For followup visits after the initial 90 day period (such as a
3 month check after a new fitting or a 6 month recheck), another
contact lens exam fee will be charged.
The contact lens exam is considered by all insurance companies
including managed care plans to be above and beyond the basic eye
examination requirements. Thus, it is deemed a non-covered service
by managed care plans and is the responsibility of the patient.
If you have any questions regarding this, please consult your managed
care plan’s membership booklet or contact your plan directly.
